Poetic sketch of a dystopian future, giving food for thoughts on a corporate co-optation of the process to make humanoids, not through assembly as a robot, but hatched in pods.
The details don't matter, but the question of what defines humanity, or living, all the more. The human and humanoid population on a spaceship ("six-thousand ship") grow to be in conflict with each other. The story is told as a series of statements made by unidentified individuals as part of an interview series. We slowly learn of the tensions, the competition for who can be the most productive worker, the inevitable defeat of humans on that matter; and we are encouraged to question the meaning of it all.
